The ongoing beta test for MSFS 2024 Sim Update 3 continues with two new pre-release builds this week. In case you missed it, you can see the release notes for each of these test builds here:
Earlier this week, we opened a survey in partnership with Xbox Research to solicit player feedback about the in-sim Marketplace. If you would like to share your opinions about the Marketplace with the development team, you can participate in the survey at this link. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us as the team looks to make future improvements to the Marketplace experience. Thank you to all who complete the survey!
As mentioned in the weekly Development Blog a few weeks ago, Microsoft Flight Simulator will be at Gamescom again this year in Cologne, Germany! If you are attending the event, please stop by our booth and say hello to members of the MSFS team. We always love meeting and chatting with our players and fans!
To coincide with Gamescom, next week we will be releasing both City Update 12 and Local Legend 21! We’re excited to share more information about both of these updates with you in the coming days!
Our efforts to backport selected aircraft from MSFS 2024 to MSFS (2020) continues. This week, three additional planes from MSFS 2024 are now available in the MSFS (2020) Marketplace: the Air Tractor AT-802, Pipistrel Taurus M, and Powrachute Sky Rascal.
Last but certainly not least, August 18 is the five-year anniversary of the launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) on PC! To celebrate, we’re asking the community to participate in our 5×5 event: for the fifth anniversary of MSFS, share your top five favorite things from the past year: they can be your best screenshots, your most memorable flights, your top five aircraft, your favorite third party add-on developers, and more! Working Title / MSFS Avionics Framework
- The MSFS Avionics Framework received numerous updates and bug fixes, including overall improvements to the autopilot and autothrottle APIs.
- Many improvements introduced with MSFS 2024 were backported to MSFS 2020, including:
- Support for electronic stability and protection (ESP) on the G3000.
- Electronic checklists on the G3000.
- Initialization flow on the G3000.
- Advanced weight and balance calculations on the G3000.
- Updated avionics packages available for developers in the next few days:
- Updated 2020 version of the Honeywell Primus Epic 2.0.
- Updated 2020 version of the UNS-1LW.
- Updated NPM packages for the Epic 2.0 avionics typings, which can be used for developing plugins for the Epic.
Flight Planner Update
- Flight Planner
- Officially published real-world routes in the menu on the route pane where available.
- Nav Data updated to cycle 2508.
- Fixed an issue where changing aircraft payload did not trigger a recalculation of flight performance, including trip fuel.
- Fixed a crash in the extended ops calculations cased by invalid aircraft speed during route analysis.
- Fixed missing AOI and SIDPT charts for some airports.

Community Spotlight: Latino professionals in aerospace
This month, we’re proud to spotlight a community that embodies inspiration, representation, and unwavering support: the Latino Professionals in Aerospace (LPA). From its grassroots beginnings, LPA continues to uplift Latino voices in aviation through mentorship, education, and community.
But for many of its members, the journey into aviation didn’t begin in a classroom or airport hangar, but in the virtual skies.
We interviewed the President of LPA along with some of its members to learn more about their mission, mentorship, and the role flight simulation plays in their journeys.

Community Fly-In Friday
We return to Africa this week for a scenic flight across Madagascar, a large island nation in the Indian Ocean!
Departing from the port city of Mahajanga, we will make our way southeast towards the capital, Antananarivo. En route, we’ll have a touch & go landing on a dirt strip at Tsaratanana.
This event which had to be canceled two weeks ago due to technical difficulties with the Twitch stream has now been rescheduled for 2025-08-15! Apologies for the delay, and we’ll see you in Madagascar on Friday!
