We’re continuing our Creator Highlight series in 2026 and are starting the new year in style, featuring popular YouTuber CowTown! Having started content creation a decade ago, CowTown (Tim) has switched his focus to Microsoft Flight Simulator in recent years. Sitting at just shy of 50’000 subscribers, Tim’s passion for our community shines through in his videos, where he cover anything from the latest Marketplace releases, to the recent launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, and much more!
We recently caught up with Tim and asked him some questions about his history in the flight sim community, and to get a peak behind the scenes of the CowTown channel:
Where did your passion for flight simulation come from, and do you have a connection with the real world aviation industry?
Hello! I’m Tim, and I run the Cow Town Youtube channel! I’ve been interested in Aviation for as long as I can remember, growing up in an Air Force family makes that pretty easy! Having the amazing opportunity to fly on aircraft like the C-17, C-5, KC-10 and more are memories I’ll never forget.
As cool as those flights were, nothing will top my Cross Country flights with my Dad. He’s the reason why in Flight Sim’s I have such a fascination flying general aviation aircraft like the Cessnas and Pipers. It always brings me back to a trip we made to the Topeka Combat Air Museum, I mean come on, flying yourself right to the doorstep of a museum? It doesn’t get better than that!
After so much time with planes in my life, obviously I loved diving into Microsoft Flight Simulator with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 Centuries of Flight. Taking off from Sea-Tac in the Cessna Grand Caravan and being in awe of what the world looked like then, and from that moment, I’ve been invested in Flight Sim ever since!
What inspired you to create content for MSFS on YouTube? Your channel dates back over a decade with a variety of games covered, so what was it about MSFS that made you decide to focus on this title?
The first 7-8 years of the channel was focused on pretty much everything in gaming no matter the genre, but it just got to a point where I didn’t want to play everything that came out anymore, I wanted to finally settle down and focus on one thing that I absolutely love diving into every day of the year and that’s Flight Sim!
With 2020 I started showcasing the new Local Legends/Famous Flyer Aircraft and enjoyed my time creating those. When 2024 released I dove into pretty much everything from Career Mode, World/City Updates, Beta Builds, and Marketplace Releases and haven’t looked back since. Being able to create content for the sim on PC, Xbox, and now PS5 and helping people learn about a plane, or how to set up a flight plan just never gets old and look forward to continuing with that content!
Do you have any goals for the channel or future plans you can give us a sneak peak of?
It would be amazing to get to 100,000 Subscribers one day, a long way to go but excited for the journey! A journey of keeping the channel’s content what it is today, a place for every player of the sim regardless of platform to come have a fantastic time in my videos and livestreams!
Can you let us know about your workflow of how you create a video?
My workflow is driven by authenticity rather than a rigid script. I prefer a hands-on, ‘in-the-moment’ approach because it allows the sim to be the focus. Whether I’m diving into new Career Mode features, hosting community livestreams, or reviewing marketplace add-ons, I find that an unscripted reaction allows me to connect more naturally with my audience. My goal is always the same: to share my passion and keep the community informed about the future of the sim in the most authentic way possible.
What are you excited for/hoping to see in MSFS for the year ahead?
I’m very excited to dive into the PSVR2 support coming later this year. Just based off what the overall experience is already like, I can only imagine how cool it’ll be in VR! As for what I’m hoping to see this year is just Career Mode improvements/new content, love that mode and can’t wait to see how it’ll evolve over the year.
