January 18, 2024 – Development Update

This week’s Screenshot Challenge winner is Twitter user @vp_sim! If you’re interested in participating in our weekly Screenshot Challenges, check out the details in the Community section below!

Earlier today, we released updated versions of two add-on aircraft: Expert Series 1: ATR 42-600 / 72-600 and Famous Flyer 7: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries MU-2. Both updates are available for download now from the in-sim Content Manager. You can read the changelog on our forums here.

We also sent the first batch of invitations to the closed alpha test of the upcoming World Hub today! If you registered for the alpha test, check your email to see if you were accepted and instructions on how you can begin using the World Hub tool. Due to overwhelming demand, we could not invite everyone who registered for the alpha immediately, but we will be adding more testers over the coming weeks. If you weren’t selected in the first round, keep an eye on your email for an invitation in a future test batch!

Finally, we want to remind everyone that our next Developer Livestream is scheduled for Wednesday, January 31 at 10:30am PT (1830 UTC). As always, you can tune in to our official Twitch channel to watch our regular panel of Jorg, Seb, and Martial plus special guests answer questions from the community and discuss the future of Microsoft Flight Simulator. We previously asked players to pre-submit their questions for the panel, and we’re currently reviewing all the submissions to pick out the most frequently-asked topics to answer during the livestream. As always, we will also be taking questions live from Twitch chat, so if you missed the opportunity to pre-submit your question, you will still have a chance to have it addressed by the panel.

Community Fly-In Friday

The Community Fly-In Friday World Tour  continues!

In this stage, we’ll be leaving Canada behind as we begin our journey across the Atlantic. Due to the necessity of crossing the ocean, we’ll be flying mostly over water until we arrive in Greenland territory. The sightseeing in this flight won’t be up to the usual standards of Community Fly-In Friday, so our panel will be providing special “in-flight entertainment” to viewers of the Twitch stream.

Note: this stage and the next few after it will be longer than usual as we make our way across the Atlantic Ocean. Once we arrive in continental Europe in a few weeks, we will once again be able to fly shorter distances and better enjoy the scenery.

Event details are available here. All are welcome to participate!

Tubeliner Tuesday

The Expert Series ATR 42/72-600 for Microsoft Flight Simulator has received an update to version 1.0.36, so what better reason to fly the turboprop into one of the most scenic destinations in the world?! For this week’s Tubeliner Tuesday we will be operating Air New Zealand flight 5651 from Christchurch (NZCH) to Queenstown (NZQN). With a very tricky approach due to high terrain and a narrow runway, Queenstown is not for the faint of heart. As always we’ll be flying on the VATSIM Multiplayer Network for those of you who wish to fly along.

Event details are available here. Feel free to follow the flight on our Twitch channel!

Dreaming of warmer weather during these cold winter months? Well look no further than FlightSim Experience who takes us on a trip from Saba (TNCS) to the infamous St. Barth (TFFJ) in the Aerosoft Twin Otter!

The approach into TFFJ is one of the most famous in the world, and FlightSim Experience expertly handles the tricky landing with some added in replays to give us multiple perspectives. Have you attempted the approach into St. Barth’s in MSFS?
