Weekly Recap

We had several new releases this week!

First up, there is a new beta build (1.39.12.0) available for MSFS (2020) players. This is a relatively small update which resolves a few stability/crash issues. You can find the full release notes and instructions on how you can manually opt into the beta test at this link.

Next, we released Famous Flyer 13: Northrop T-38A Talon. This aircraft was previously available as a pre-order bonus for PlayStation 5 users, but it’s now available on all platforms from the in-sim Marketplace. Read more about this supersonic military jet trainer here and watch the trailer below!

Finally, the latest City Update launched yesterday on January 28. City Update 13: California enhances the scenery for several cities in the Golden State. If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere where it’s currently winter, what better way to escape the snow and cold than with a flight to sunny California? Check out the trailer here:

Community Fly-In Friday

This week we’re off to Vietnam to explore a country rich in culture and history! We will depart from the capital city of Hanoi and then make our way on a generally southbound heading along the coast of the Gulf of Tonkin to our full stop landing at Da Nang, a city known for its beautiful beaches and close proximity to several UNESCO World Heritage sites. En route, we will also have touch & go landings at Vinh and Đồng Hới.

City Update 13: California, released for FREE for all players this week! Why not go and plan a tour across the Golden State to take in the views? This will also be the theme for this week’s Screenshot Challenge (more details below), so make sure to get your virtual cameras out to capture some great in-sim screenshots!

Forum user Zadma also created a flight plan that visits every location shown in the trailer above and shared it with the community. If you’d like to fly Zadma’s flight plan, you can import it from the Flight Planner website at this link.

B.A.R Community Meetup – Dallas: The community are working on their first North American BAR meetup, planned for the DFW area at the C.R. Smith Museum — an aviation-focused location many of us have wanted to visit together. Details are still being finalized, including a small attendance cap, and registration will open later via Eventbrite. For now just save the date. More soon!

Creator Highlight

We’re continuing our Creator Highlight series in 2026 and are starting the new year in style, featuring popular YouTuber CowTown! Having started content creation a decade ago, CowTown (Tim) has switched his focus to Microsoft Flight Simulator in recent years. Sitting at just shy of 50’000 subscribers, Tim’s passion for our community shines through in his videos, where he cover anything from the latest Marketplace releases, to the recent launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, and much more!

We recently caught up with Tim and asked him some questions about his history in the flight sim community, and to get a peak behind the scenes of the CowTown channel. Read the full interview here!
