March 21st, 2024 – Development Update

This week’s Screenshot Challenge winner is Forum user HolmesCZ6127! If you’re interested in participating in our weekly Screenshot Challenges, check out the details in the Community section below!

Public testing for the upcoming Sim Update 15 continues to progress. Thank you to all the volunteer beta participants who have been submitting bug reports and feedback on the forums so far!

Over the last several days, we’ve noticed many reports about an issue affecting PC players where the sim will always open in windowed mode even if full screen mode was set. Players using both the regular release build and the SU_15 beta build are affected by this issue. The team has identified the source of this bug, and a fix will be coming with SU_15. In the meantime, the workaround to restore full screen mode is to set this option in your General Settings each time you launch the sim or simply press Alt+Enter on your keyboard.

On Monday, March 25, we’re hosting a Grand Canyon Race on our official Twitch channel in partnership with Tobii! One lucky viewer from Twitch chat will win a Tobii Eye Tracker 5. For the full details about this event, please see the Community section of this post below.

Finally, it’s that time of year where many people get really obsessed with tournament brackets, and we couldn’t resist creating one of our own! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be posting a series of polls on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram each weekday. Vote for your favorite aircraft to see it advance through the bracket. Which will be the one plane to rule them all? It’s up to the Microsoft Flight Simulator community to decide! See all the details on our forums here.

Grand Canyon Run

We’re thrilled to present an exciting exhibition event to showcase how using a Tobii Eye Tracker 5 can increase your situational awareness and sense of immersion when flying in Microsoft Flight Simulator!

Join us on our official Twitch channel at 1700 UTC on Monday, March 25 to cheer on your favorite team during this thrilling test of flying skill! During the livestream, we will conduct a random draw where one lucky viewer from Twitch chat will win a Tobii Eye Tracker 5 (must be present to win)!

The racers in this event will be:

  • Representing the MSFS Team: Community Managers Chewwy94 and SeedyL
  • Representing Tobii: Jonas and Sigrid
  • Representing the Simmer Community: Twitch streamers CaptArash and Kenco

The format of the competition is as follows:

  • Three teams will compete a flying race through a portion of the Grand Canyon!
  • Each pilot will fly the route individually (time trial)
  • All pilots will be using a Tobii Eye Tracker 5 to demonstrate its capabilities to viewers
  • The team with the fastest combined time will be declared the winner and will receive the right to gloat about their superior flying skills

Also, Tobii is currently running a 15% discount promotion on the purchase of an Eye Tracker 5. Click here to take advantage of this offer before it expires on April 1!

Community Fly-In Friday

The Community Fly-In Friday World Tour continues!

This week, we’re departing from Luxembourg and flying to the famed City of Light, Paris! En route, our flight plan will take us across the picturesque French countryside as we complete touch and go landings in Nancy and Reims.

Please note the possible start time change depending on your location: with most of North America recently switching to Daylight Saving Time, the start time for this event is now 1800 UTC, not 1900 UTC as it was previously.

Event details are available here. All are welcome to participate!

Community Video

Many of you will be familiar with the YouTube channel Linus Tech Tips, who boasts a whopping 15.5 million subscribers. Linus is famous for his crazy tech ideas and projects, and for this week’s Community Video Linus and his team create the Worlds Biggest Gaming TV. Not only that, but as you can see by the thumbnail below, they play Microsoft Flight Simulator on it too!

We’re all very jealous of having a setup of this scale on which to experience Microsoft Flight Simulator!
