May 25th, 2023 Development Update

Testing for Aircraft & Avionics Update 2 (AAU_02) continues to go well. The teams at Asobo and Working Title are hard at work preparing a new beta build which we target for deployment to testers within the next few days. When the build is released, you can find the patch notes on our forums here. For those who want to stay updated on the latest beta news, we recommend pressing the forum’s “bell” icon to be notified whenever a new beta announcement is published.

Thank you to everyone who has enrolled in the test and downloaded the beta build so far. We have been carefully reading all your comments and logging bug reports in our internal tracking tool as required. For anyone not yet enrolled in the beta who would like to test the next major release for Microsoft Flight Simulator, you can find instructions on our forums here.

For anyone who missed it, the 40+ year history of the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise was recently the subject of an in-depth article written by Preston Lerner and published by the National Air and Space Museum. The piece includes several quotations from Bruce Artwick, founder of subLOGIC and the original creator of Flight Simulator as well as other contributors to the series over the years including current MSFS leader Jörg Neumann. You can find the article online here!

SDK & THIRD PARTY UPDATE

  • The SDK and Third Party updates will return next week.

Community Fly-In

May 25 is Jordan’s Independence Day! In recognition of this holiday, our fly-in this week will be a scenic tour of this Middle Eastern country departing from the capital city of Amman then continuing southbound along the Dead Sea. Our full-stop landing will be at Aqaba, a popular tourist destination.

The flight will include a flyover of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra. For those of you playing on PC, we recommend downloading a freeware addon created by Jeppeson2001 that adds several hand-crafted POIs around Petra. The mod is available here.

Event details are available here. All are welcome to participate!

Community Video

The largest and most important aviation industry event in the world is coming up in one month. For the first time since 2019, the Paris Air Show is returning to Le Bourget Airport from June 19-25. YouTuber Squirrel has partnered with aircraft manufacturer Daher (makers of the TBM 930) to run a contest using Microsoft Flight Simulator. The grand prize is a trip to Paris to attend the air show, including airfare and hotel!

You can watch Squirrel introduce the contest in the video below, and you can read all the terms and conditions on his website here. Good luck!
