May 29th, 2025 Development Update

This week’s Screenshot Challenge winner is Forum user HolmesCZ6127! If you’re interested in participating in our weekly Screenshot Challenges, check out the details in the Community section below.

Since last week’s Development Update blog, we have released two new Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Sim Update 3 test builds to volunteer community beta testers. If you haven’t seen them yet, you can read the release notes for each of these builds here:

We always appreciate those of you who choose to join our public tests and share your feedback and bug reports on our official forums. If you are taking part in the SU3 beta, please be sure to vote in the forum surveys about your overall impressions with the test builds and performance/stability on your preferred platform.

In MSFS (2020) news, there was not a new Sim Update 16 pre-release build released to testers this week, but the team’s work on upcoming beta builds continues. As with MSFS 2024 SU3 beta participants, we encourage everyone enrolled in the SU16 beta to vote in the forum surveys.

No matter what build you’re flying on this weekend — MSFS 2024 SU2 release or SU3 beta, MSFS (2020) SU15 release or SU16 beta — we wish all of you happy flights and smooth landings!

– MSFS Team

Creator Highlight: Captain Carlos

For our May 2025 Creator Highlight we focus on Frankfurt-based YouTuber Captain Carlos!

Aiming to transform his passion for aviation into stunning cinematic flight simulation videos, Captain Carlos has built a community of over 22’000 YouTube subscribers with millions of combined video views. Though he’s never worked in aviation, his fascination with aircraft began in childhood and took off with Microsoft Flight Simulator 98. After a long break, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) reignited that spark!

Inspired by real cockpit footage, Captain Carlos began producing immersive, dynamic flight sim videos whilst looking to do more than just A to B flying. Focusing on realism by mimicking real-world camera angles, using dramatic lighting, and capturing the magic of sunrises and sunsets in the sim, he combines the capabilities of Microsoft Flight Simulator with his own flare and style of video creation.

Whilst mainly concentrating on the wide choice of jet airliners within MSFS, Captain Carlos believes variety is important to his channels success, and is looking forward to future 3rd party aircraft releases from developers such as BlueBird and PMDG.

Check out Captain Carlos’ latest cinematic flights on YouTube for your own inspiration and don’t forget to “Aviate, navigate, communicate … and content create,” as his motto goes!

Community Fly-In Friday

On May 29, 1953, Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary become the first two confirmed humans to reach the highest point on Earth, the summit of Mount Everest. To celebrate this triumph of humanity’s desire to explore our planet, the destination of our Fly-In event this week will be to Everest.

The flight plan also includes a departure and arrival at two of the world’s most iconic airports, Paro International Airport (VQPR) and Tenzing-Hillary Airport (VNLK), also known as Lukla Airport.
